Before the first Saab 99 Turbo appeared in dealer showrooms as a 1978 model, Saab built 100 test prototypes with the turbocharged engine in early 1977. Of those, 37 were sent to the United States for evaluation and long term testing.
One of the more interesting entries (at least to the webmaster of this site) is a 1960 SAAB 96 from Sweden. A pair of Swedish women comprise the driver/co-driver team, with a couple of men-friends along as crew. You can follow their exploits at Saabpearl.se. The site is in both Swedish and English.
Photos of the car prep on The Pearl are an inspiration to the VintageRally.net webmaster to get off his fat butt and get working on that 1960 SAAB 93 ice racer parked in the barn.

Mayday! Adventure Drive
Several hearty teams chose to drive around Lake Superior, largest of the Great Lakes, in arcane and elderly autos. Led by Kevin Clemens, four cars left Superior, Wisconsin, on April 29th, and returned to Duluth, Minnesota, on May 2nd.
Interest in Vintage Rallying in the U.S. seems to be picking up again, so the Vintage Rally site is back on line.
The VintageRally.com domain name was not renewed and was snapped up by a reseller who wants wa-a-ay too much money for it. VintageRally.net was available, so it will become the new home for Vintage Rally information in North America. Much of the information from the former site will end up here in the next few months.
As always, your photos and stories are appreciated. Fans of Vintage Rallying throughout the world stop by to visit every day to check up on what's new in the sport. Hope to see you at a Vintage Rally soon!
